When Facebook’s co-founder Mark Zuckerberg paid around $100 million for 700 acres of rural beachfront land on Kauai two years ago to create what Forbes magazine described as a secluded family sanctuary, he actually acquired a not-so-secluded property.

Kapa'a came out in great numbers to cheer and support the repainting of its landmark #whalingwall. It was originally painted in 1991. Many of the people who came out were kids and are now adults with their own kids. The whaling wall project is not only about the art but also about the community who came out to volunteer and support the project. It is a great honor for me to be back on the garden island and give this gift to the beautiful people of #Kauai. I want to thank the mayor, Bernard Carvalho, and all of the wonderful people who are out here making it happen. This was probably one of the best first days I've ever had. Covering the entire mural with the Na Pali Coast and a life-size humpback mother and baby above and below.
